Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage

This certificate is issued to Kenyan citizens wishing to have their marriages, either to Kenyans or foreigners, performed abroad. It ensures that your marriage is valid both in Kenya and in your country of residence.

Important Notice

• Failure to provide all the required documents on the checklist will lead to your application being sent back for completion.
• The Kenya Constitution neither acknowledges nor endorses same-sex unions. Certificates are therefore not issued for such unions.
• Enter your last P.O. Box or full residential address in Kenya in section 7 of the application form MA5.
• All photocopies presented MUST be certified by a notary public (Notar) in your country of residence. Scanned documents are not accepted.
• Processing may take up to 6 months or more. Apply early.

Requirements

The application MUST contain 2 SETS of the following requirements:

• Two (2) sets of fully filled Application Form MA5. Click to Download
• Two (2) photocopies of the Kenyan applicant’s current passport (all official pages), certified by a Notar.
• Two (2) photocopies of the Kenyan birth certificate, certified by a Notar.
• Two (2) photocopies of the fiancé/fiancée’s passport. If unavailable, they must apply for a temporary passport from their local authority. ID copies are not accepted. Copies must be certified by a Notar.
• For divorced or widowed Kenyans: Two (2) photocopies of supporting documents (both German original and English translation) i.e. divorce decree or late spouse’s death certificate, certified by a Notar.
• A bank transfer slip of the non-refundable fee of €120.00 payable only by bank transfer (Embassy of the Republic of Kenya, IBAN: DE63100400000266014004) or EC-Debit card at the Embassy. Cash payments not accepted. Overpaid amounts will not be refunded.
• For sending your confirmation letter: A self-addressed A4 envelope with stamps and Einschreiben – Einwurf pre-registration (Germany only).
• For sending your certificate: A self-addressed A4 envelope with stamps and Einschreiben – Rückschein pre-registration (Germany only).
