New Passport Applications

All applications for a new Kenyan passport are made online via the eCitizen platform. Applicants must complete the online process before visiting the Embassy for biometric capture and submission.

Important Notice

All passport applications must be completed and paid for on www.ecitizen.go.ke under the Department of Immigration Services before booking an appointment at the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin for biometric capture.

Please ensure your application is complete and accurate before visiting the Embassy. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Requirements for New Passport Applications

  • Duly filled online application form (downloaded from eCitizen)
  • Three (3) current passport-size photographs (no glasses, no headgear, hair away from face)
  • Copy of Kenyan Birth Certificate
  • Copy of National Identity Card (ID) for applicants aged 18 years and above
  • Copy of current or expired Kenyan passport (if applicable)
  • Copy of parents’ National ID or Kenyan passport (for minors)
  • Parental consent letter and copies of both parents’ IDs (for applicants under 18 years)
  • Marriage certificate (for married applicants changing names)
  • Police abstract and affidavit (for lost passports)

Application Steps

  1. Visit the eCitizen portal and create an account (if you do not already have one).
  2. Login and navigate to the “Department of Immigration Services” section.
  3. Click “Passport Application” and choose the type of passport you wish to apply for (Ordinary, Diplomatic, or East African Passport).
  4. Fill in all required details and upload the necessary documents as listed above.
  5. Pay the applicable processing fee online through the eCitizen platform.
  6. Print the completed application form and payment receipt.
  7. Book an appointment for biometric capture at the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin.
  8. Submit the printed application form, payment receipt, and supporting documents in person on your appointment day.

Submission of Documents

Once the online application is completed and printed, applicants are required to submit the documents in person at the:

Documents may also be sent by post. However, biometric capture must be done in person at the Embassy during working hours.

Processing Time

Processing of new passports takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks from the date of successful biometric capture and submission. Applicants are advised to plan their travel accordingly.
