All persons require a “Ehefähigkeitszeugnis”, which is a Certificate of no impediment to marriage, stating that they are legally free to marry.
IMPORTANT:
- Failure to provide all the required documents on the checklist will lead to your application being sent back to you for completion.
- Every Kenyan residing in abroad and intend to marry outside Kenya should apply for a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage if this is required by the marriage registry in your country of residence. This will enable your marriage to be valid both in Kenya and in your country of residence.
- The Kenya Constitution neither acknowledges nor endorses same-sex unions. Certificates are therefore not issued for such unions.
